Next Big Thing the Google 3D Maps for Oceans

By Siddharth Gaur | May 4, 2008

GoogleWe all have used or listened about Google Earth, Google Maps, Google Sky and even Google Moon. The next big thing which Google will offer in the maps and navigation field will be Google 3D Maps for Oceans, may be with Google Oceans as a product name.

This new service is a future product that is under research and Google has strong plans to make it a reality. People are calling it Google Ocean but name can change on its launch. Google wants to make a map and navigation enabled web application that will enable users to navigate below the sea surface. Partnering with photographers, satellite data, ultrasound mapping and GPS tracking, a very new product can come to existence.

Sea Surface 3D Map

Google Ocean will show users the basic layer of the sea, may be the sea floor. By adding data taken from satellites, actual photography, ultrasound mapping and the Google Earth images Google will convert that blank portion into a real and useful data of that place.

New service can help in understanding sea behaviours and changing temperatures, weather patterns, reaching storms or hurricanes tides and even newly formed cracks in the sea floor. There are so many possibilities in this filed, I have to say that when Google has decided to participate in development of this service the results can be very useful and impressive. Let’s wait and watch till Google Ocean arrives.
