Now send Self Destructing IM and Emails

IM ClientsThanks to the new technology that we can now save archives of all the fancy talks we do on IM and emails, but the other side is not that good. Some time ago saving Instant Messages become possible and that created lots of problems to many users. Like if you have said something about your boss to a colleague over IM for fun, now it can be tracked in the other computer hard disk in a snap. So there is no need to ask MSN, Google, AIM and Yahoo! or checking out log files.

Sending Emails is more social and reputed way for some users to say I am serious and this is important. Instant messaging is more like a quick conversation or something we do when we are getting bored. May be some of you use it in a business or serious way but most of us use it for socialization and daily chats. But what happen to your privacy when another side user can save your IM’s? Each and single word you send to him/her in its own computer with a click of a button. This is not something I am a fan of.

Big StringWell, Web 2.0 Expo comes with a solution to this feature too. BigString showcased how their IM and Email service add an extra measure to your privacy. Every IM you send via their service is deleted as soon as another user reads it. There will be no archive, no screenshots and even no copy and paste. Even server copies and logs are erased as soon as the conversation is over. The same thing will happen with self destructing emails too.

Now that’s a step which was never needed but Yahoo! and other Instant Messaging giants gave a reason to make this new feature a reality. First we think a way to store it and now something to erase and self destruct it all. May be IM are built in a way that they are small chat sessions and there is no need to save them in individual’s computer, and for security reasons log files are always available in the servers. So you can check out BigString service, but note that there self destructing emails and IM’s are currently available for their users only.
