Cityville – A challenging new game or another boring clickfest?
According to Zynga – the no. 1 publisher of online games on Facebook platform, Cityville is the ‘fastest growing online game ever’, outpacing Zynga’s other successful products like Mafiawars and Farmville
So whats all the fuss about?
Last week I was feeling a little under the weather, the weather wasn’t so good either so I decided to investigate what all the fuss about was for myself.
Now, I am not normally one for Zynga’s games, they are normally very click intensive and have little thought other than to spam your friends with gift requests and click random things a million times, but Cityville was different.
It appears to be a combination of some great games from the past – Sid meiers civilization and Sim city were quoted as providing inspiration for the game designers. Anyway – I’d recommend giving it a try with your friends as neighbours – this is quite an important point – if your friends don’t play these types of games will not be much fun.
It really helps when your friends work together – you can setup franchises with your friends and it helps you both need to click less – truly a win win. The gameplay mechanics are a lot more deep than Zynga’s other games and there are many different strategies you can employ to build your perfect city.
I was also fortunate enough to find another article which has some very good free information on how to quickly become familiar with the cityville game mechanicsand I highly recommend this Cityville guide for beginners
It includes 8 important tips to get up to speed on the gameplay and will enhance your enjoyment immeasurably.
Well that’s it – give it a try and let me know in the comments what you thought… If you want to add me as a neighbour just look me up on Facebook
Till next time!

Always On: Language in an Online and Mobile World $18.95 In Always On, Naomi S. Baron reveals that online and mobile technologies—including instant messaging, cell phones, multitasking, Facebook, blogs, and wikis—are profoundly influencing how we read and write, speak and listen, but not in the ways we might suppose. Baron draws on a decade of research to provide an eye-opening look at language in an online and mobile world. She reveals for instance that email, IM, and text messaging have had surprisingly little impact on student writing. Electronic media has magnified the laid-back "whatever" attitude toward formal writing that young people everywhere have embraced, but it is not a cause of it. A more troubling trend, according to Baron, is the myriad ways in which we block incoming IMs, camouflage ourselves on Facebook, and use ring tones or caller ID to screen incoming calls on our mobile phones. Our ability to decide who to talk to, she argues, is likely to be among the most lasting influences that information technology has upon the ways we communicate with one another. Moreover, as more and more people are "always on" one technology or another—whether communicating, working, or just surfing the web or playing games—we have to ask what kind of people we are becoming, as individuals and as family members or friends, if the relationships we form must increasingly compete for our attention with digital media. |

Caught In The Net Of Deception $12 Caught in the Net of DeceptionRose Jackson-Beavers and Edward Booker, authors of A Hole in My Heart, introduces us to Shawn, Mike, Alexis, Demetra, Kelly, and Karen in three powerful stories about teenagers facing danger from meeting strangers on the Internet. As these teens look for love, fun, and opportunities to make money, they will face danger. Most teens are familiar with FaceBook, MySpace, and spend time surfing the Internet, but if not careful they could be sucked into a world of danger. The Hood in Me by Edward Booker Shawn and Mike are best friends who always have each other’s back. They have a strong relationship, but when they meet a stranger on the Internet who offers them a chance to make money, trouble comes and their strong brotherhood is tested. Will they fall into the hands of the stranger or will they survive using street skills learned in the hood? The Price of Disobedience by Rose Jackson-Beavers Meet Alexis Kirby, the thirteen-year-old, only child of a successful couple. Living with parents who have plenty of bling-bling, she shares her designer clothes and high tech toys with her close friend and cousin, Demetra. Demetra introduces Alexis to teen chat rooms on the Internet and they decide to post fake pictures of themselves. Danger lurks around the corner. Will Alexis’ parents save her from being the next Internet victim? Caught in the Net of Deception by Rose Jackson-Beavers Bullies come in all shapes and sizes. Unbeknownst to Kelly Sanders, they also come in the form of mean, so-called friends playing terrible games on the Internet. Already, a loner who suffers from depression, Kelly meets a boy on MySpace and theybecome fast friends. Happy to have finally made a friend, she tells him all about her life. Considering the new young man as a potential love interest, she finds herself quickly falling in love. That is until she finds out that the boy is not the person she thought he was and bullying has |
